The Alzheimer Association’s (alz.org) article on the 10 early signs and symptoms of Alzheimer’s and dementia was and still is a very important resource for our family as we look back at our mom’s 10-year journey with Alzheimer’s. Here’s a link to the article: https://bit.ly/2RL9p0b
My sister and I have been recounting the story of Alzheimer’s in our family for this podcast, Alz In The Fam. Basically, we took the first two episodes to really discuss how we began to notice the disease in our mom.
Now when we look back on our mom’s journey, we can notice and distinguish many of the early warning signs that alz.org mentions in our mom’s actions and words. These warning signs are what ultimately pushed us to get our mom the necessary help she needed to diagnose and treat her for Alzheimer’s.
As difficult as it is to realize and admit, our family is happy that we did not wait any longer than we did to help our mom. This article, https://bit.ly/2RL9p0b, and alz.org in general served as an important tool in our family’s story.
Some of the first warning signs that we could identify were difficulty completing familiar tasks, confusion with time or place, and challenges in planning or problem solving to name a few. What are some of the first signs and symptoms that you have noticed in yourselves or your loved ones? Let us know on social media.
